We are a little over half way through the month. =). How are your projects coming along?<br />
Do you feel you've been putting just a bit more focus on sewing? ...even if you aren't able to get in 30 minutes EVERY day? Do you think a bit more about a certain project? Or are you just wanting to get more sewing time in...no matter the project? =) <br />
<br />
This is what I concentrated on this last week. =D<br />
<br />
I wanted to angle the seams on the binding so that they wouldn't show as much on the quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I always struggle with overthinking when it comes to scrappy and a lot of times with my borders too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It makes a project take WAY longer than it should take because I get bottlenecked with decisions. I tried about 6 other borders before coming up with the one below. But.... in the end...</div>

Do you have a hard time with fabric choices in your quilts? I use the one of those color value tools (available for purchase and info <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Cottage-Mills-Color-Evaulator-Filter/dp/B001FQZC8I">HERE</a>). These DO help. But that OVER thinking minion in my brain haggles with me still! LOL<br />

I've decided to piece my block by hand. And, I needed a GOOD/ACCURATE stitching line. I've opted to use the outside of the templates as my stitching line. Then, I cut approximately 1/4" on the outside of my drawn lines. In the picture above, you can see that I draw the lines with my fabric on top of the sandpaper board by Sue Daley. </div>

<br />
<br />
I apologize for not doing the check-in sooner. But, my laptop was having KUHnipshunz with internet connections the last couple of days. So, I couldn't log on to blogger in my usual way and upload pictures, etc. I hope this didn't discourage you in your quest to get some sewing done for the challenge. <br />

How has your sewing time been going? What projects have you been working on...maybe finishing?<br />
Reading about your projects in very encouraging =)<br />

<br />
<br />
My sewing has been going slowly. =(. But on Thursday at our local quilt group meeting I was able to get in an hour plus. And, I did to a bit of sewing on Sunday. My total for last week was approximately 2 hours. I'm still *in-progress* with my Glam Clam quilt. I've had some glitches. I can get hung up on choosing colors when doing a scrap quilt. And, I was having a hard time choosing extra borders. Then, a glitch in the bottom "muffin" pieces for the last row. Ugh...sigh...it can suck the momentum out of a smooth sailing with so many glitches. But, I'm going to persevere. =P<br />

The challenge continues to help me get more sewing done, working towards finishing projects that otherwise would be sitting sadly in a container on a shelf.<br />
<br />
<br />
Besides sewing I have been working on other crafty projects =D. I regularly have to switch tracks with my craft genres (knitting, crochet, spinning fiber, weaving...) to keep my interests from getting too stale in one area. I hope to share some of these projects in future blog posts. <br />
<br />
Do you have other handcrafts besides quilting? If so, what?<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
1) Try to sew just 30 minutes, 6 days a week </div>

2) Please comment about your progress on those Blog Posts with the subject being... Sew30SewFUN</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
3) There will be a gift certificate at the end of June. The winner will be chosen from those who leave comments on Sew30SewFun blog posts. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
4) This challenge can be different for different people in that a Winner for the Gift Certificate is NOT chosen <strong><em>only</em></strong> from those who actually succeed with sewing 30 minutes/6 days per week. My thinking is that we can be successful even if we are doing better today than yesterday =)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
5) There will be a minimum of $25 for the Gift Certificate. But...it could get higher. I will be putting $5 in the "Cyber Jar" each day that I do not sew the 30 minutes. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, peeps....how did things go for the Month of May with regards to finding/creating more time in your life to work on projects? =D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I actually feel pretty good about my progress in finding more time to work on my projects! I didn't get as far as succeeding in my challenge for myself...of the 30 minutes EACH day for 6 days a week. But, setting the challenge was VERY good for me because I found that I at least thought about it and made each week to at least TOTAL the time of 30 minutes times 6 and getting that total of 3 hours SOME how within the week. THAT I did succeed in doing...so, I feel there was progress for me compared to time I gave to my projects in several months previous to May. =D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My hope is that my challenge for myself encouraged others to find time that they hadn't previously committed to working on projects. And, that the time found was enjoyable and confidence building =)</div>

Okay...sooooo, hmmm...last week for me wasn't fulfilling my challenge to myself of 30 minutes EACH day/6days. HOWEVER... =D, I DID sew for 3 hours for the week total. The sewing was mainly on the weekend. Being true to my commitment to the "cyber jar" (giveaway monies), the jar now contains $35!!! </div>

I sat down to my favorite sewing seat. It's a small student/office chair purchased at Target. I love the bright turquoise color. I dunno, it's just a cheery color! I have tried many seat options to help with my back hurting after sitting in the chair for sewing over several hours. I do get up to cut and to iron. And, I've tried back supports, heating pads, larger/super-padded seats with larger backs. I've tried heating pads and pillows. I've tried the rubber-y blow-up seating pad. Nothing I've tried over the years has helped more than this seat pad. It has a special shape of cushy memory foam. If I place it this direction and a bit forward on the chair, I can sit in a way that keeps my back from arching or adding any pressure to my spinal cord. I LOVE it!!</div>

This may seem a waste of time to some. But, I really do love to use pins to keep things from sliding all around. I find that pins (maybe many in a small space) help me to be more accurate than I otherwise would be. I don't like to sew with urgency or in a hurry to finish. So, putting (and taking out) pins is worth the time for me. =)</div>

This is a quilt from "many moons ago" =P. I had the binding all sewn except about 12-18". I just couldn't motivate myself (discipline isn't really woven into my DNA lol), to put it on to the machine and sew the ends together...and finish the back and front of the binding in that area. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For several months, the quilt languished hanging over this or that table. It was folded and put into the "to be finished" pile(s). Then, it was dragged and unfolded to be dumped into a heap of things to make room for organizing a particular area in the sewing room.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One day a sweet friend came to visit with me and we sewed together in my sewing loft. As we chatted, she noticed the quilt's sadness in it's heap on the side of a messy pile in a dark corner of the sewing room. My friend asked if she might help me to get it finished. I smiled and went to pick the quilt up and show her the area that still needed to be completed. I really enjoyed making the quilt. How did it get mixed up in such a messy pile on the wrong side of the room? =(</div>

I'm so grateful that they are there to motivate me when my discipline and/or mojo are in the negative. This last week some of my sewing escapades included learning to make a "Fat Quarter Pop-up". Find out more about them <a href="http://www.fatquartergypsy.com/Pop-Ups.html">HERE</a>. They come in 3 sizes and this is the small one. They are really fun to make! And, finding fun and unique fat quarters for your pop-ups is easy at your local quilt shop!! =D</div>

$3.00 =D. I have to confess that the TV tray was already padded and covered with a muslin colored canvas that I purchased at the Sew Simply Stitched retreat back in March. (a SUPER FUN retreat...may I add! more info about the retreat on their website <a href="http://www.sewsimplystitched.com/">here</a>). But, I wanted to pretty it up a bit =)</div>

The next think I worked on this week was my Glam Clams from Latifah Saafir! You can find out more about her patterns, specifically the Glam Clam in 3 sizes. Her patterns are some of the BEST patterns I've seen. Heavy cardstock with great color instructions, they are easy to read and follow! And the acrylic rulers are GREAT too!! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I ADORE scrappy quilts!!! But, they don't seem to have the same feelings towards me!! =P. I have always struggled with choosing what little scrappy pieces goes where and next to "who". I find that the RUBY BEHOLDER (no longer available, but <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Cottage-Mills-Color-Evaulator-Filter/dp/B001FQZC8I/ref=pd_sim_201_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B001FQZC8I&pd_rd_r=68C2RHJRHD8590NHDD44&pd_rd_w=mt3yC&pd_rd_wg=FapfF&psc=1&refRID=68C2RHJRHD8590NHDD44">HERE</a> is something similar) is a great tool and helps me a quite a bit. But, it can still take me 20-30 minutes to arrange just a few pieces. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I struggle with rearranging... many...ump<strong><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">teen</span></strong> times! Ugh...=(</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Notes about my personal week's challenge: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I didn't sew six days for 30 minutes per day. I DID sew a total of minutes for the week that would add up to 30 minutes per day. However, MY challenge for myself is to try to create a habit of sewing a minimum of 30 minutes per day. So...I will still be putting $5 per day into the Cyber Jar for those day that I don't sew the 30 minute minimum. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There will be a minimum of $20</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
in the Giveaway at the end of the month!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But, I've put in $15 so far. =P</div>

But, I do. My worries start to stack up. Will I measure incorrectly? What if I cut off and they are too short? Needles can break and hit me in the face...maybe worse in my eyes!! I know, there are those extra heavy duty needles for jeans. But, when you hem...Oh MY!! there are <strong><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">lots of layers</span></strong> at the seams! Because my husband is a bit short (to his documentation, it's 5'4"), I've done my share of hemming pants in our 43 years of marriage. I hmmmm and haaaaw, with some extra procrastination added in. Tired of waiting for me, he once tried to hem his own jeans and gave up =(.<br />
<br />
He likes to use up and reuse, fix what's broken (which our family lovingly calls <strike>jimmy </strike>DAD rigging). This is an admirable trait and I'm not really knocking it. But...when I get dragged into his path of jimmy rigging the very worn out jeans, well...lets just say that I get even bigger rashes than doing hems with quadruple layers of denim. <br />
<br />
For softball, part of his favorite attire is...you guessed it, OLD (soft) jeans. And, the knees do get worn, especially sliding into bases...which he loves to do LOL. Last several years I have patched and re-patched the knees using extra pieces of denim cut from a different pair of jeans that weren't re-patchable. But, they didn't seem to last but a dozen wash and wears. I think that the darning/stitching weakened the area around the patches. <br />
<br />
Mr. Fix-it went online and researched methods of jean-pants patching, in particular knees and worn pocket corners. I'm actually excited to share the results of his research. I hope this might help other jean-pants repairmen (and repair women) from possible "rash conditions" like those I've previously suffered (lol). Of course, this doesn't mean that my hemming days are over =P<br />
<br />
<br />
THIS is the "magical"stuff =D<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pants are turned wrong side out and a heavy paper or cardboard is</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
placed inside to cover the hole in the jeans. The paper keeps the glue </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
from going through to the other side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Spread glue <strong>generously</strong> over the worn out area,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and extend glue outside of the worn area several inches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I didn't get a picture of him spreading the GOO on the patch itself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(You can see the size of the patch in the above picture)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He did glue the wrong side of the patch <strong>generously</strong>. He said that</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
online it suggested putting glue on both patch and leg of pant.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And, to put GOO on the wrong side of the patch also. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dxQZDG4DoSE/WRJxpvX0iAI/AAAAAAAARjI/KuQZ4yZfL3QBNv1m4LmMD2NVOMqgOeX0ACEw/s1600/20170505_183911001_iOS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dxQZDG4DoSE/WRJxpvX0iAI/AAAAAAAARjI/KuQZ4yZfL3QBNv1m4LmMD2NVOMqgOeX0ACEw/s320/20170505_183911001_iOS.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He then placed a flat board on the patch and pant leg after</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
they were glued together. And, a heavy concrete block was</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
place on top of the board for better adhesion. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After one day, he then took the jeans out to lay in the sun</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
to make sure all was dry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They've been machine washed and sent through the dryer as normal. The patch, so far seem to be holding securely. And, the process actually strengthened the knee area. The machine stitching seemed to weaken it. I will update at a later to let you know how the GOO patch is working.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>

How did you do this last week? Did you do 30 minutes, all 6 days? Or was your progress, at least, better than the week before you started the challenge?<br />
<br />
I was able to do 30 minutes (and a few days I did more, yay!) each day for 6 days. The first few days were harder to get myself on THAT chair in front of my machine. And, get the sewing in motion. I don't know why I was dragging my feet? Why did I wait until later in the day, sometimes after dinner, even though I did have time earlier? These are things I want to figure out. I DO like to sew. But, for some reason I have a hard time just getting started. eeeek...crazy mind of mine!! <br />
<br />
Well, this is one of the reasons that I wanted to do the challenge for myself. I want to learn why I drag my feet, why I just don't "get in there!!" and put my foot to the sewing machine pedal. <br />
<br />
I did learn that it was satisfying even for the 30 minutes. And, the accomplishments... as I looked back...however small, made me happy (insert a nice big smile here).<br />

<br />
So...what did you learn? What did you accomplish? It's not a challenge for competition. It's more to see how the challenge can improve your motivation and help with a habit to fit some "working on projects" into your schedule on a regular basis. If you did less days and or less time, than someone else, you are NOT failing. If you even got a few more stitches completed than the day or week before, KUDOS to YOU!!! =D Celebrate the progress! =D<br />
<br />
Please leave a comment...tell us what progress you are celebrating! Each time you let us know how you are doing, you get another chance in the "end of month drawing" <em>(minimum of $20 gift certificate to your favorite online quilty/crafty shop)</em><br />
<br />
Let's put more momentum in this next, upcoming week. We can do it...we CAN make PROGRESS on our projects.<br />

<br />
I'm creating a challenge for myself...and, anyone who would like to sew...along. =)<br />
<br />
It's a challenge to sew just 30 minutes each day (6 days a week, 1 free day) for the whole month of May 2017. <br />
<br />
What gave me the idea for this challenge was an article I read <a href="http://jamesclear.com/goals-systems">(here)</a> written by John Clear. He believes that one should focus on the system (how you get to the goal) instead of the goal itself. He says that focusing on the goal(s) to heavily is counterproductive. As I looked back on my Weight Watcher journey started last October 2016, and my goals while using the Treadmill 6 days a week, I realized that I've been more successful this time around because I've wanted the journey to be important. The journey is where I'm learning how to stay with the good habits and how to improve the habits too. <br />
<br />
I do have goals in place for each of these areas. But, I've not hired an executioner in my mind to stand me before a mental firing squad, if I don't reach my goals on a specific day in time. I do set some consequences for myself but they are part of the system along the journey.<br />
<br />
So...for this Sew30Sew FUN challenge:<br />
<br />
Goal: To get more sewing done on a daily/weekly basis, having FUN at the same time!!<br />
In doing so, I hope complete some of my P.I.P.s (projects in progress). <br />
<br />
System Rules:<br />
---I will sew a minimum of 30 minutes each day 6 days each week, giving myself one day off<br />
---What I sew each day can be randomly chosen, does not have to be the same project each day<br />
or even the same project for the whole 30 minutes <br />
---It must be ACTUAL sewing time...not rearranging my sewing area, or cleaning the sewing <br />
room. LOL<br />
---The 30 minutes CAN be divided into increments throughout the day<br />
--- I *will* allow myself to start new projects. This is not a challenge to finish projects started.<br />
<br />
<br />
At the end of the month, I will <span style="font-size: large;">give a way</span> the total dollar amount I've put my "cyber-jar" as a Gift Certificate. To have a chance(s) in the random drawing at the end of the month, a person must make a comment (or comments) on my weekly "check-in" posts, either on this blog or on my Instagram: anniesrubyslipperz (#Sew30SewFUNMay2017)<br />
<br />
<strong><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Get</span></strong> your sewing area <strong><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">ready</span></strong>...maybe <span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>set </strong></span>out a few things you've been wanting to sew on, and...<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
...is one of Marie Kondo's foundational phrases for her methods to de clutter and organize. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img src="http://www.howtoinstructions.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Marie-Kondo-Folding-640x886.png" height="200" width="144" />Isn't she darling? =D You can learn lots more about her and her organizing philosophies** by following her Instagram account <a href="https://www.instagram.com/mariekondo/?hl=en">here</a> or check out her website for her books, etc <a href="https://konmari.com/">here</a> She has great ideas with actual organization as well as great ideas to help with thought processes to motivate getting rid of things we don't "need", or that doesn't spark joy in us. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Seeing her IG post (the pictured above), automatically made me think about how I feel when I go into my "hallway" of fabric stash. This stash has been getting out of hand. Maybe not in the amount of fabric so much, but in the organization of it. I don't know about you, but, for me... taking a fabric or two out for audition in a quilt can be hazardous to the other fabric left on the shelf still neatly stacked. Either the stack falls or slightly leans over when one or two pieces are pulled out or...when I try to put fabrics back to their original spot. As time passes, shelves become more and more in disarray. More time passes and fabrics are left on the floor because they can't fit back onto their original spot - even with efforts to try.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I realized that "getting close to belongings", (as Marie states) is a good exercise for me to do with my fabric stash. It's a great reason to take messy, falling-every-which-way groups of fabric off their shelves to refold them so that they fit better within their designated area. I admit, I have a hard time starting this exercise...it usually seems sooo overwhelming (and to be honest...kind of BOR...RING). The problem usually gets worse before it gets better. Before I know it I'm tripping all over fabric on the floor to find the stool that's buried so I can climb up and pull out more fabric as *that* stack tumbles to the ground to join its fabric-mates holding down the carpet. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finding my mojo to clean up the fabric stash...could take many more moons. Suffice it to say that on quite a few occasions, I have great friends who come over and rev up my decluttering mojo motor. =D =D =D </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When taking fabrics in my hands to refold, I often get thoughts like..."why in the sam-heck did I purchase this!...it's got way too much yellow!" (Those who know me, are shaking their heads, I'm sure! LOL). There are other fabrics with pretty colors and/or fun prints. These fabrics bring thoughts of... "Oh, I forgot about this one! It's sooo pretty! I NEED to put this on the list of quilts to make SOON!" </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you were to pull out older fabrics to hold/refold, would you get similar thoughts? Do you certain fabrics bring a big smile to your face? Do some tell you they are NOT happy in your stash because they want to go somewhere, some place that they could make someone else happy??</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It seems to me that just walking by fabrics or glancing at them in search of something particular for what I might currently be working on...isn't good enough to "get CLOSE". Scanning over the stash isn't good enough to feel whether or not they SPARK JOY for future quilts or projects. Taking a piece of fabric out and refolding it...even if it's a partial refold, is what I need to feel the Vibes of Joy =D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know that it can be almost impossible to take down every piece of fabric from it's shelf or out of it's container and refold it all in one sitting or in one day...of course this depends on the amount of stash you keep. I'm totally not qualified to judge on Stash Size!! LOL! And...one note I'd like to mention here, (imho) the amount of stash a person has isn't as important as how much of it is stagnant, or how much of it is creating a burden, holding you back from positive, forward creative motion. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Maybe if the stash feels overwhelming to dig into and start folding, it could be divided into smaller sections that might only take 30 minutes to "get close to". Maybe one shelf or container could be emptied, sorting with "JOY? or "NO JOY". Then, you'd only put back the "JOY" ones to the original storage spot. Having a friend to visit with you while you sort through your stash can be super awesome because the fabrics you're moving out of your stash could be ones the feel JOY for! And, giving some of your stash to a friend is really cool! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sometime, though giving parts of our stash away is difficult even if it doesn't spark joy. We handcuff ourselves with guilt that we spent "good money" on it and we should force ourselves to use it, if not now...then, in the future. Or, we fear that we might "need" it at a later time. In many cases, if it's weighing us down and just adding to clutter or overstuffed stuffed containers now, odds are, it will be in the future too. One solution might be to put the "NON-JOY" fabrics in a box for <em><strong>possible</strong></em> giveaway. If you don't miss it and/or there is still no joy in owning it, after a month, you probably won't miss it if you give it away for good. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<em> </em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<em><strong><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">**</span></strong> I seriously doubt that I could ever become a minimalist. I am pretty sure that I will never become a great organizer. AND, I still have a LOT of STUFF!</em> But, I am learning, and trying to improve. If an item doesn't spark a feeling of joy, if it feels burdensome, just taking up space for no good reason, it needs to be given away. As I clear out crafty items that might feel burdensome to me, I gain a motivational and creative energy. Decluttering for me, isn't necessarily downsizing or living with less. It's more about getting rid of the old so that I can feel more joy for what's left, even free up space for new more joyous items. I do give myself permission to bring new things into my life. Think of an old light bulb just sitting in a lamp socket. If the dead/non-light just stays in the socket, there is no spot left to put in a bulb that gives light. (edit: <em>I'd also like to add here that I don't follow all of the Marikondo methods. Many are too restrictive for me, personally. But, the "Spark Joy" idea is one that has helped me tremendously in just choosing what and how to let some things move out of my life)</em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's an ongoing process for me, striving to be aware and "get close enough to" my stuff. It can even be a down right struggle. I need to set aside specific time<strong><em> regularly</em></strong> to re-evaluate my possessions, crafty and otherwise.. Do my things bring me joy, shine light into my life? Do they motivate me to look forward, be better, be more creative? Or are they keeping me in the past, bringing me useless frustration, keeping me from enjoying people and/or enjoying fun activities. I know when I do take the time, even if it's a small area or just a few items, I feel so rejuvenated.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What are your ideas for keeping your crafty items organized? How do you decide whether to give something away or keep it? Do you have regular intervals of sifting through your stash? What gets your MOJO reved up to organize/declutter? Maybe you are one of the great and disciplined ones that actually use your stash up with finished projects - regularly? =D </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

(my favorite things)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="187" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MuAlzCivSG0/WOb0IooeXII/AAAAAAAARc0/82Su54klhn8ZQVWJ6dknhbrHIEOw82QSwCLcB/s200/20170404_134507000_iOS.jpg" width="200" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
...some really fun, special totes =D</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
First, I LOVE totes!!! Any quick peak into my crafty closet(s)...one would say that Totes love me too!! LOL They seem to gravitate towards me like magnets! =P I actually have several extra large totes that hold numbers of other smaller totes, tote-holder totes, so to speak. I think they multiply in the dark when the closet door is closed.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
But, in the last year or two, I've discovered something about what is real "Tote Happiness" for me. </div>
<div>
One VERY important thing! That is a window to it's contents. A tote with a clear window is a must so that I don't have to actually open the tote (untie draw strings, unzip zippers, pull open velcro flaps, etc.) to see the project "hiding" inside. With a window, the light shines in, rather than the project sitting down "deep in the dark". My old eyes need all the light they can get to figure out what long standing project could be inside. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
It's isn't easy to find FUN, CUTE totes <strong><em><u>with a window</u></em></strong> to purchase. Yes, there are patterns out there. I could make some. I choose to spend my play time with my sewing machine, making quilty stuff. There are some clear bag/totes available with plain colors, maybe 3-4 choices of colors, kinda boring...</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
There IS nothing out there, that I know of, that fills the "FUN-CLEAR-WINDOW" tote wish list like the totes that ANGIE makes! I can't seem to get enough of them! =D They are meticulously made! Every nook and cranny has been totally finished, no loose threads or poor stitching. </div>

I wanted to share a bit about Angie herself as well as her handmade, (my favorite) totes. So below are a few questions that I asked her and she graciously answered. Two darling dogs, some pizza, Air Force computers, and a giveaway...take a few minutes to read all about it =) </div>
<div>

<div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">

<span style="color: blue; font-family: "times";"><strong>How/when did you make your first item for sale?</strong></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">-I took lots of sewing classes in 2013 and 2014 and made a bunch of different things as I got comfortable with my sewing machine. I sold my first items during the holiday season of 2014 for my neighbor’s Mum that had seen the bags that I had made for my friends. She wanted all the recipients of her holiday gifts to receive handmade items. That’s how it all began.</span></div>

<span style="color: blue; font-family: "times";"><strong>What habits do you do that you feel makes your business successful?</strong></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">-I am an analyst (computer nerd) by trade and also slightly OCD so I tend to carry over my organization into my personal life as well as my shop. Each Sunday I create a checklist of all of the items I plan to make during the week and I check them off as I go along. It’s so nice to check off items from a long list! But it’s also important to close my shop for the day and focus on my family which helps me disconnect and refresh.</span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">

<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">-Sadly, my talents in the kitchen are sub-par but I have a wonderful husband that enjoys cooking. My go-to food is usually pizza but I’m trying to be healthy so I’m switching to chicken salad or tuna salad with a few crackers. It does not even come close to the deliciousness of pizza, though.</span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "times";"><strong>What is one of the most fun things that comes along with this “job”?</strong></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">-I love making pretty things but I would have to say that the most fun thing is the joy that people express upon receiving my products. I just love that there are people all over the world using something that I made myself that came from my imagination.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "times";"></span> </div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">-My favorite subject because I adore my mini-Schnauzers Ricky Bobby & Sammy! I had no plans to have a pet but my husband convinced me soon after we got married that we needed a dog, specifically a Schnauzer because they do not shed. He did the search and found a local breeder then brought a white fur-ball (Sammy) home one night. We fell in love but learned quickly that raising a puppy is very much like having a toddler. We bought our 1st home when Sammy was 1 and I felt that he needed a sibling. Soon after I saw a Facebook post about a grey Schnauzer rescue that was available for adoption. I fell in love with his picture and immediately dragged my husband to meet him. Ricky Bobby had been neglected and had some health problems and my husband was hesitant but I was convinced that Ricky Bobby needed to come home with us. His original name was Ricky but seeing him next to Sammy who is a white Adonis with beautiful fur I felt that Ricky needed a name that would make him memorable, too. So Ricky became Ricky Bobby with his kinky fur, overweight body and poor health. He is now a happy, healthy, good-looking companion and he is remembered everywhere he goes because of his name and his excellent manners. Sammy, the pampered Adonis, is a bit of a rascal and is remembered for his not-excellent manners. You just can’t win sometimes. Since I work from home they help keep me balanced by reminding me that it’s time for breaks which include snuggles & play time.</span></div>

<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "times";"><strong>If someone wants to start a little business with their craft(s) through the online media, what suggestions would you have for them?</strong></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">-My suggestion would be to start with a plan that lists your goals for the shop. The plan should also include the items you want to make & sell that includes sizes and supplies. A cost-analysis that details the cost to make the items is very important because it gives you an idea of how much it will cost you to make the items and how much profit you can make. Researching on the craft items that you want to make & sell is very important. If there are lots of shops that already sell the same thing you make then it may be difficult to stand out. Also, a brand or cohesive look such as shop name, logo and colors will go a long way to make your shop look professional. Making connections with other shop owners is a HUGE advantage. I have learned so many things since I started my shop and I still feel that there is so much more to learn.</span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";"></span> </div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "times";"><strong>Did you sew when you were young?</strong></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">-My mother used to sew clothes when I was young but my job was to help her clean-up and pick up the million pieces of thread that always hang around a sewing studio.</span><span style="font-family: "times";"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "times";"><strong>How did you come to the decision to sell your products as a business?</strong></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">-I really enjoyed making unique bags that I could not find anywhere else and my friends and family enjoyed using them. After receiving a number of requests to make items for gifts and such I decided to test the waters to see if there was a market for my products out in the real world. Once my first product started selling I started thinking of ways to improve it. Then I started dreaming of new products. I decided to quit my job in March 2016 and I haven’t looked back since! My sewing studio keeps me very busy and I love coming up with new ideas on how to promote my shop.</span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">

<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "times";"><strong>Favorite hobby besides sewing?</strong></span></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">-I love to craft and I love to try new things so I’ve delved into screen printing, graphic design and using my heat-press. I’ve been an avid reader since I was about 9 or 10 years old so I would say that my Kindle is my favorite gadget/hobby outside of my sewing studio. So many adventures, so little time!</span></div>

</span><span style="color: blue; font-family: "times";"><strong>Most unusual/positive experience that you’ve had in your life thus far?</strong></span><br /></div>
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: "times";">-I would have to say that it was when I left home at 18 to join the Air Force. I moved far away from home and met many wonderful people that helped me grow up with a good outlook on life. It was the best kick-start to adult life and I really appreciate the experience and education.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "times";"><span style="font-size: 11px;"><strong><span style="color: blue; font-size: small;">Air Force?! wow! that is soo awesome! Did you fly airplanes? or what was your job, if you can share?</span></strong></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "times";"><span style="font-size: 11px;">
<div style="line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-size: small;">-Alas, I did not fly airplanes. When I arrived at my first assignment at an Air Force medical facility I was assigned to file medical records. I quickly grew bored and would finish my job early to shadow (stalk) a network administrator that was working on the computers in my area. Soon after he decided to make me his apprentice and thus began my career as a computer nerd. I went to college at night and earned my degree in Computer Science and that’s what I thought I would do for the rest of my life. Funny how our life plan unravels and becomes something completely different.</span></div>

This first picture is a quilt hanging in the local Roosevelt quilt shop called "<a href="https://www.missanniesquiltshoppe.com/">Annie's Quilt Shop</a>" (nope not my shop, lol). It's such a friendly store! They have quite a good variety of fabrics that include minky, flannel, extra wide backing. I fell in love with this horse panel quilt! I purchased the fabrics with the idea to sew on it while at the retreat. The shop didn't have any more patterns to purchase. So I measured and planned it out with the help of my two retreat/condo chums. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mP-bSm4CcCE/WNHat1o4rgI/AAAAAAAARaA/tKmna_tOqIs7ooiZ9jk-9qbx4iahc9lgACLcB/s1600/20170315_225555186_iOS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mP-bSm4CcCE/WNHat1o4rgI/AAAAAAAARaA/tKmna_tOqIs7ooiZ9jk-9qbx4iahc9lgACLcB/s320/20170315_225555186_iOS.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The square in a square made with brown and blue, created the separation rows. I decided to do</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
half square triangles because it seemed easier to me to figure the math to make them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HKxa3B7NWRU/WNHat4JUx8I/AAAAAAAARZ4/2mm633iv93w4cwujgD5z0rkR0MVEfJDhwCLcB/s1600/20170316_165442825_iOS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HKxa3B7NWRU/WNHat4JUx8I/AAAAAAAARZ4/2mm633iv93w4cwujgD5z0rkR0MVEfJDhwCLcB/s320/20170316_165442825_iOS.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was the super sewing set-up in our condo living room. Two of us brought <a href="http://www.seweziusa.com/sewezi-portable-table.html">Sew-EZ tables</a> (the white tables in the foreground)</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Working on my Horse panel quilt, I had to revert to the old fashioned way of making half square triangles. The first step of cutting all the squares out and pairing a blue and brown, right sides together. Second was drawing diagonal lines on each set, and third sewing 1/4" on each side of that line. Fourth, I cut on the diagonal drawn line, and fifth, I needed to trim to correct sizes. Whew... That was SLOW going, compared to my more preferred method of <a href="http://trianglesonaroll.com/collections/half-square-triangle-paper">Triangles on a Roll</a> papers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I did enjoy the hay pasture smells and the pretty fields. Later in the day we walked again and it was</div>

We have sooo much fun when we all get together! As you can see with the following pictures, we have ladies who come to work on many different kind of "threaded" crafts. We share our love of the crafts we like to do and many times people will want to try crafts that they've previously not tried before. Enablers in the bunch?? OH! YES...most of us REALLY enjoy getting someone hooked on a new hobby. =D</div>

Seeing all the lovely projects, talking with and laughing about things going on in our lives...is so re-energizing for me! This next week I will be going on a Quilting Retreat here in Utah with a few friends. I will bring quilty projects as well as some knitting and drop spindle spinning. I find if I only bring one type of project, I will get bored. Focus isn't my strong suit. LOL </div>

<br />
It's been a long time since I've heard from so many of you. I've been away from Bloggerland for almost 2 years and I'm sure lots of things have transpired in your lives in the last two years as it has in mine. At 64 years old, I feel like the "other side" of the mountain. And the toboggan is time. It just seems to go faster as my years get closer to the bottom of the mountain side.<br />
<br />
I'm feeling the urge to get back to blogging. Yes, as many of you know me well...urges can come and go in a few minutes! LOL. I did really enjoyed blogging before. Then, I passed through the Instagram door! Different world over there. It seems so much easier/faster to post pictures and put just snippets of conversation. Quick, quick, quick and right from my phone! I found that I was just doing it more and Blogger less. <br />
<br />
Looking back to when I first started my blog, there were some specific reasons in my mind. I wanted to stretch my brain and learn something new. Sometimes I was a frustrated mental mess trying to figure something out...picture a tangled ball of yarn and trying to untangle it! LOL. I guess my brain wasn't quite as stretchable as it I thought! But, at the same time, when things did work out (either with someone's help or my hours of trying)...it was gratifying.<br />
<br />
Another reason was to create a journal of my some of my life's activities, ideas and perspectives so that I could look back on them. Maybe even my kids or family might look back on it too. I have good friends that I don't see very often because they live far away. Blogging seemed a great way to share pictures of projects and some of my crazy adventures with them as well.<br />
<br />
Also, I wanted to be helpful to others...that might come to visit the blog. Maybe a helpful experience, an insight or just to put a smile on a few faces, was a goal.<br />
<br />
It made my heart happy to blog with these reasons in mind. Making one's heart happy (as well as other people's) is an important part of life...don't you think? =). <br />
<br />
The blog hat has been in my closet for some time now. I'm going to put it back on and see where the path takes me next.<br />
<br />
Here are some questions for you, if you don't mind commenting:<br />
<br />
1) Why do you like to blog (if you have one)<br />
2) What are reasons you visit other blogs?<br />
3) Since March of 2015, what memory makes you most happy?<br />
<br />
*If you answer all three questions, your name will be put in a drawing for the **giveaway below. (drawing closes Friday February 24th midnight mountain time. Winner will be announced Saturday the 25th) <br />
<br />
*Five Fat Quarters of quality cotton fabrics (includes free shipping)<br />
<br />
Have a great rest of your weekend! See you next week!<br />
... =D<br />

They bring a sack lunch and covered drink along with any crafty-thread-quilty projects they'd like to work on. <br />
We aren't limited to quilting... =) We crochet, knit, spin fiber, cross stitch, weave, tat and what ever other fiber-eee projects you can think of!<br />
<br />
For the last year so we've met at a local quilt shop called <a href="http://www.thimblesandthreads.com/">Thimbles and Threads</a>. But, today we decided to meet at someone's house. <br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
We do show and tell which is such a fun part of getting together! We learn from each other and get motivated to work on our current projects as well as starting new ones (OH NO!! LOL)<br />
